Long Island Information

Long Island is an island located in southeastern New York, consisting of four counties: Queens, Kings, Nassau and Suffolk. Nassau and Suffolk counties are known for their affluence. There are many bridges and tunnels that connect Long island to New York City. There are also ferries, which connect Suffolk County to the state of Connecticut.

Long Island is the longest island in the United States, being over 118 miles long, and one of the largest. It has a population of more than 7.5 million people, making it the most populated island in the United States.
Long Island has long been a center for the computer industry, with emphasis placed on scientific research and engineering. It is the home of the Brookhaven National Laboratory and the Department of Energy research. Others have also come to find Long island their home, such as: Sperry Rand, Gentiva Health Services, Computer Associates, & Motorola Enterprise Mobility.

One of the largest industrial parks in the United States (Hauppauge Industrial Park) is located on Long Island, employing more than 50,000 Long Island residents. The east end of the island still remains partly agricultural, with vineyards and potato fields becoming a new major industry. Other industries include fishing (at Northpoint and Montauk).
